What is a zero torque putter?

A zero torque putter is built so the shaft axis runs through the head's center of gravity instead of off to one side. That alignment is what removes the twisting force, the torque, that makes a putter face want to open or close on its own during the stroke.

Every putter in this collection is built that way. Our product pages put it in one line: zero-torque design, where the shaft axis aligns perfectly with the head's center of gravity. It is a balance decision made at the machine, long before anodizing or Cerakote touches the head, and you notice it most on the putts you do not strike cleanly.

Why zero torque helps on off-center strikes

Think about your last three-putt from twelve feet. The first putt was probably not a terrible stroke. You caught it a groove toward the toe, the face turned a fraction at impact, and the ball started a hair right of your line.

That toe miss is the specific thing a zero torque head is built to resist. When the shaft axis sits off the center of gravity, an off-center hit gives the head something to rotate around, and the face twists. Run the axis through the center of gravity and there is less for it to rotate around.

We are not going to put a number on that. Lazrus has not run its own lab test, and we are not about to dress up a figure we did not measure. The miss zero torque helps with is the miss most weekend golfers actually make

LAZ2 vs LAZ2.5 vs LAZ3: which zero torque putter is right for you

Three mallets, three prices, and the gaps between them are smaller than the price tags suggest. All three are CNC machined from aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum in Boise, with a 34 inch standard length, plus or minus one and two inch options, and a magnetic head cover in the box.

Here is the honest version.

The LAZ2 at $207 is the one most people buy, and for most people it is the right call. A 365 gram head suits a normal stroke on normal greens.

The LAZ2.5 at $217 carries a 378 gram head. Thirteen grams does not sound like much until you putt fast greens. Heavier heads tend to feel steadier through the ball. If you like a heavier head, it is ten dollars, and you have thirty days to find out.

The LAZ3 at $247 is the newest head in the range. Same 365 gram weight as the LAZ2, finished in Cerakote rather than anodized. At forty dollars over the LAZ2 it is a preference buy, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Not ready to replace the whole putter? The Zero Torque Head Only starts at $117 and fits a shaft you already own, which is the least expensive way into the design.

Independently tested: what MyGolfSpy measured

We did not run this test. MyGolfSpy did, and the numbers below are theirs, not ours.

For its 2026 zero torque guide, MyGolfSpy put 26 models in front of 20 avid golfers across 120 hours, 16,640 putts in all, from 4, 8, 12 and 18 feet. It gave the LAZ2 its Best for Medium Putts award, recording a PuttView Handicap of minus 7.4 at medium distance, minus 6.3 overall, minus 5.0 short and minus 3.7 long. The same write-up says the LAZ2 "underperforms compared to the rest of the testing field" on short and long putts, and you should have that half too.

One model was tested, not the whole range. Read the full test on MyGolfSpy.

Machined in Boise, Idaho

Every Zero Torque head in this collection is CNC machined from aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum at our Boise, Idaho headquarters. Not designed here and made elsewhere. Machined here.

That is also most of the reason these are priced the way they are. Lazrus is family owned and sells direct, so there is no distributor margin and no retail markup stacked on top of the machining. You are paying for a milled aluminum head and a shaft, not for shelf space and the advertising that pays for it.

Every putter here ships with a 30 day love-it guarantee and a one year warranty. Putt with it for a month. If it is not for you, send it back.

Frequently Asked Questions

A zero torque putter is one where the shaft axis runs through the head's center of gravity rather than beside it. Because shaft and mass line up, the head has much less tendency to twist open or closed through the stroke, particularly on a hit that misses the center of the face. Every putter in this collection is built on that design.

Better at one specific thing, not at everything. Zero torque is a balance design that reduces face twist on off-center strikes. It will not fix your read, your speed, or a stroke that comes from the shoulders one day and the hands the next. The honest answer is that feel is personal, which is why there is a 30 day guarantee. Roll it on real greens and find out.

They are all mallets. The LAZ2 at $207 with a 365 gram head, the LAZ2.5 at $217 with a 378 gram head, and the LAZ3 at $247, also 365 grams and finished in Cerakote. There is also a Zero Torque Head Only from $117 if you want to build it onto a shaft yourself, and a discounted cosmetic blemishes option from $177.

Yes. The LAZ2, LAZ2.5 and LAZ3 are all built right hand and left hand, at the same price either way, with the same 34 inch standard length and the same plus one, plus two, minus one and minus two options. Left hand is not an upcharge here. Pick the model you want, then choose your hand on the product page.

The Zero Torque Head Only, starting at $117. You get the same CNC machined 6061 aluminum head, built to the same zero torque geometry, without a shaft or grip. It makes sense if you already like the shaft and grip on a putter you own. If you would rather it arrive ready to putt, the complete LAZ2 at $207 is where most people start.

Boise, Idaho, at Lazrus headquarters. Every head is CNC machined from aerospace-grade 6061 aluminum and finished either anodized, on the LAZ2 and LAZ2.5, or in Cerakote on the LAZ3. They ship with a 30 day love-it guarantee and a one year warranty, which is the part that matters if you are buying a putter you have never held.
